Bulk Excavation

Bulk Excavations

What are Bulk Excavations?

Bulk excavations are often needed to bring land to the right level to build foundations and structures on and involves the removal of large amounts of soil, rock or other materials from site.

What’s involved in bulk excavations?

  • Site strip - clear out of all material on site, from vegetation and topsoil to hard-standings and trees.
  • Reduced level excavation – if levelling the ground means going underneath the top of the subsoil, specialist machinery will be needed to drop the level of the foundations
  • Break out and remove existing hard surfacing – from empty houses to derelict buildings or unwanted car parks
  • Site remediation – the removal of polluted or contaminated soil, sediment, surface water, or groundwater, to reduce the impact on people or the environment.
  • Removal of arisings off site – clearing of any cut wood, trees and stumps and ensure they’re disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner

How do I know what excavation work will be needed?

Excavations are categorised in two ways; first by the type of material being excavated and second by the purpose of the excavation.

Once we understand the project, our engineers use a variety of methods to identify the materials that need removing so they can keep costs down and prevent technical problems on site.
